  1. Today i am afraid i wasn't able to make my placement. At basketball practice the other day i hurt my shin somehow and this morning i went to go get it checked out. I was told to wrap it up someway and keep pressure on it as best i could. I really wish i could have went today because i have a feeling today would have been a good day

  2. Today was the second day of my placement at Midway Elementary School. This morning Mrs. Hayes and I were already off to a rough start. I was not up to par when I woke up this morning, and Mrs. Hayes was caught in traffic. Once I got to the school I greeted all the students and the other teachers. While we waited for Mrs. Hayes to arrive the students read quietly in the hallway. Once Mrs. Hayes arrived we went into the class and the students got their breakfast. While they got their breakfast Mrs. Hayes asked me to take over the breakfast list, and write down the names that got food. The breakfast list will be my job for the remaining time at Midway. Today the students were beyond awake. They wouldn’t sit down for anything; they kept coming to my desk and taking stuff, and then bringing it back. Once Mrs. Hayes got the test started I began on my assignment while they tested. Mrs. Hayes asked me to take the veteran’s pictures and make a frame with construction paper to be put on the bulletin board. Once I was finished with the pictures I took a few pictures of the class while they were still working on their test. After they had finished the test it was already time for me to leave. So I said by to the students and to Mrs. Hayes, signed out, and headed to North Central.

  3. Today is the second day of my placement at Baron DeKalb Elementary School. I signed in this morning in the office as I normally would then I went to Mrs. Sowell’s classroom and signed in with her. Today they are having a Veterans Program Honoring our Veterans. While Mrs. Sowell went to other classrooms and to the library to get everything together for the program that they were having I was in charge of the classroom. Mrs. Sowell told them what was expected of them and if they didn’t do what they were supposed to do or if I had to call them out for something that they would lose their recess. While Mrs. Sowell was gone out of the classroom I just knew that the students were going to act up. They didn’t they were good for the most part, I had one student who kept getting out of his seat to go across the room to talk to his cousin. When Mrs. Sowell got back the students went to the library a few at a time while some were working on AR Tests. While they were taking AR Tests Mrs. Sowell had me hole punching cardstock paper so that when they are finished with their 18th century and 21 century writing journals for social studies they can make a book. After they finished taking AR Tests and came back from the library they didn’t get to work on their “Writers Workshop.” I was kind of upset that they couldn’t work on it because I wanted to see what one of my students came up with for his catchy title because him and I both had a hard time to come up with a catch title for rollercoasters. After everyone was finally settled in their desk Mrs. Sowell sent a student over to tell Mrs. Knight the fifth grade teacher that they could come over to practice their song for Veterans Day. Unfortunately when I looked up at the clock it was 9:00, in other words time for me to go. I didn’t get to hear them sing but I bet they did a great job. I sadly signed out and headed to North Central.

  4. Today is Friday and it’s my second day of placements. The students are continuing working in their groups. They are still trying to find how literary terms create suspense in Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe. I’m starting to get the hang of all of this. I’m still learning. I’m trying to catch on to what all their doing, but it’s been a while since I was in eighth grade. Today I’ve been walking around helping groups. I’m able to answer the questions they are asking me today. It was interesting to see them working in groups together. I got to see how they get along with one another and I also paid attention to their conversations. I do this so that I’m learning more about what they’re doing. I began my placement whenever they were in the middle of a lesson, so that I’m kind of lost. I’m trying to catch on to what they’re doing, and I am doing better today than I did yesterday. I’m able to answer a lot of their questions. We’re all starting to bond too. They are all so sweet. I love when they ask me questions. I also love watching Mrs. Kahler teach to them. She’s a great teacher and when I see her explaining something to a group I go over there and watch how she explains things to them. I’m so excited to be in my placement and I’m really looking forward to having a really good relationship to the students and also getting in there and helping more and actually teaching. I’m also nervous.

  5. Today in class, I arrived earlier than the day before and the kids were not in class yet. When they walked in most of them greeted me but a few did not. One got in trouble early in the morning for giving someone the finger though. For a warm up I had to hand out a small amount of blocks. One set had a hundred and the others were worth ten and ones. Mrs. Joyner would tell them which numbers to do although. The kids began to show out so Mrs. Joyner stopped them from playing the game and made them study because they had two quizzes today. One quiz was on their reading that they have been doing all week so we were separated into groups and I had to help two groups read the story and study over it. After reading with the first group the students had a restroom break and I was told to take them to the restroom. So I took two different groups and surprisingly all of them behaved very well. The students were beginning their quiz when I had to leave so I did not get to stay to see how Mrs. Joyner does it. When I was getting ready to leave all of the kids will tell me bye and say how they will miss me. I am ready to see what is in store for Monday.

  6. Today when I got to my school, I signed in the front office and then I went off to talk to my teacher Mrs. McCaskill. We talked about my situation, where I don’t have actual class in the library on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I have to be in a class with kids every day so I had to ask Mrs. Rivers if I was allowed to help her out on those days and then go back to the library with Mrs. McCaskill on the other days. Mrs. Rivers say she would be glad to have me. I set off to the class and I then signed in with Mrs. Rivers. Mrs. Rivers first checked the kid’s homework. They then worked on the math warm up and they went over them. After that they fixed the two sentences that were wrong. On Fridays they do a language quiz and turn them in. While the other kids were finishing the test the others read quietly. After that they did work with hexagons and octagons, trying to see if they would tessellate. They kids were on their best behavior and were very good. I had a blast getting to see how they acted in what not. Time flew by and it was time to go, I said bye and thanked Mrs. Rivers for letting me help her on Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays. Then headed back to North Central.

  7. Friday was my second day of placement at the middle school. The morning show for the students was canceled, so we all had to do the pledge together as a class. Mr. Leininger told them that his computer had broken and that he couldn't highlight on the SmartBoard and that they would have to take down all the notes as he talked. He shortly began notes and I became essential because there were some problems with the PowerPoint that I fixed easily. Some of the students couldn't see some letters because pictures were in the way, so I moved them for Mr. Leininger. He thanked me and they continued on with the notes. After they finished notes, Mr. Leininger told them they were going to do an unscrambled word worksheet and whoever completed it or got the most answers right would get as much candy as they could grab from his candy bag. They had eight minutes and were timed on the SmartBoard. Once the time ended, they checked the answers and two students had 11 out of the 13 correct, which was pretty good. I did the worksheet myself and got 10 out of the 13 correct. Mr. Leininger told them Monday they would have to do a tiebreaker because they both couldn't win. Shortly after, class was dismissed and I made my way back to North Central High School.

  8. Today is basically the same as yesterday. I wasn’t able to be with my second graders because they are doing testing. So I went into fourth grade and helped Mrs. Young, since Mrs. Newman hasn’t come back yet. When I walked in, the kids yelled out “Hey Miss Amanda” and my heart melted because they remembered me after one day. They were doing their “morning work” and I had to walk around and help them on writing a sentence correct. After they did their morning worksheet and read for about five minutes we had to line up for their related arts which was P.E. I walked them to the gym and waited on the substitute P.E. teacher told the kids what they were going to do. She told me that she didn’t know what to make them do because the teacher didn’t leave anything for them. So she made them walk a lap, then run a lap for about 10 minutes. They were then told to sit in a circle and wait for further instruction. She said they could play basketball and asked them how they wanted to play; girls verse boys or what. She finally decided to make it girls on one side of the court and boys on the other. She numbered off the girls then numbered off the boys. They started playing and me and her started talking. I found out that she is an undergraduate of Clemson and is now at USC. One of my fourth graders are special and she started crying, we don’t know why but I felt so sorry and I wanted to do something to help. That was pretty much my day. I, once again, hated to leave.

  9. Today the kids came in and did their daily journals and I went over popcorn words that we'd made flash cards for the day before. They were also celebrating Veteran's Day today so everyone was excited about the assembly that would be happening later that morning. Thats all anybody could talk about all morning! They had their normal circle time after journals as I observed, afterwards they started on accelerated math. While they were working on this Mrs. Farnum had me cut out their "feet", they had been talking about how long a foot was and had take home a worksheet where they had to mark the length of everyone in their household's foot. I was sorry I didn't get a chance to see what they would be doing with those afterward. The morning was fairly quiet though because of the change in schedule for the program and because Mrs.Farnum was in and out with being in charge of that.

  10. I did not go to my placement today because I had to participate in the high school’s Veterans Day Program. I made sure I notified Mrs. Ingram ahead of time so she would know I would not be at the middle school with her.

  11. Today is Thursday, I went to my placement and I met the class and interacted with the kids. I got the privilege to teach my own group on the first day, I was so happy. I showed the kids how to label the American flag. I taught them how to draw a star and cut out the flag pieces. I let them color and trace the different parts of the flags. I got all there parts of there flag together and put them in order. I stapled the parts together and let them turn it in. In my second group I taught the kids how to draw upper case and lower case Ss and Ts. I had them color the ones that started with T and the ones that start with S. we did all the working our group time we got all of it done.
