  1. Today was my 10th day at Midway Elementary. It was also my first day back from Thanksgiving break. When I got to Midway this morning I signed in at the front office like normal and went to Mrs. Hayes’s classroom. All the kids were unusually quiet and looked tired. Mrs. Hayes sent me to the library to get a computer cart; Dalton was my assistant today. When we got back to the class room we plugged up the cart and I then took the breakfast and lunch count. After the morning routine the kids watched the morning news show and got ready for the day. They got out their journals and had to write about what they did over their Thanksgiving break. Once they finished with their journals Mrs. Hayes asked them to get out their books they were going to do a lesson on a story called “Click Clack Moo.” They were discussing the vocabulary and the meaning behind the story. While they read I graded three sets of papers and then it was time for me to go. So I gathered my things told everyone bye and went to the front office to sign out. Once I signed out I headed to North Central. Overall I think it was a good day back after the break.

  2. Today was a very tiring and i really didnt do anything but i thought it was a good class none the less. We started out with a warm up and getting the kids setting, after that we started on the lesson. The lesson for today was an overview of the conservation of energy. Its a lesson about how energy changes forms and is never destroyed or created. We had many examples in order for these kids to grasp the concept of this. We compared it to things like if there is 100% energy but 70% may only be light and the other 30% is heat. AFter this the lesson commensed with a worksheet and after 15-20 mins we went over the sheet and class was over and the swtiched classes. I stayed after to disscuss my teaching with Mrs. Lesher and then i left edger for a better day tomorrow.

  3. Today, when I arrived at my placement I talked to Mrs. Mason about getting ready for me to teach and about what lesson to teach. When the students arrived in the classroom they put their lunch cards in the pocket for what they want for lunch. All the students put their book bags up and then it was time for them to read for AR time. Two children read books to me today and they have been improving on their reading skills and their names are Tristan and Branson. Then some children took AR test and helped them with words that they need help on. After they got done with AR time and then they got to the floor with their reading books. Mrs. Mason started to go over vocabulary for the story they are starting to read. Mrs. Mason gave me two stacks of papers to grade and to check. After I checked the papers I put them back on her desk and then I walked around and made sure everybody was paying attention. After that it was time to go and a few children got up and gave me hugs.

  4. Happy Monday! I was so excited to get back to my kids. I was tweeting last night about how excited I was. When I woke up this morning, I had one thing on my mind, well maybe two or three. I wanted to get ready as soon as I could so I could leave and make it to Mt. Pisgah before my kids got to class. When I finally got to Mt. Pisgah, I noticed that Mrs. Catoe’s door wasn’t open but I walked down the hall that way anyways. Within the next five minutes I saw some of my kids peek around the corner and then Mrs. Catoe followed right behind the rest of the class. The kids did their usual by unpacking then going to the rug to start morning meeting. Again, Mrs. Catoe let students sign up to read with me, only after they were finished with their morning meeting work. The first to sign up, like always, was Cheynne then Makenna. Before I could get finished with Makenna’s book, the timer went off, which meant that it was time to go to the library. My kids quietly lined up, all except Elliott who wasn’t finished with his morning meeting. I let Mrs. Catoe take the kids down to the library and I wanted on Elliott. When we got to the library, the rest of the kids were sitting on the carpet waiting. The librarian read two books about Christmas, An Amish Christmas and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The kids seemed to get restless after the first book because it was a little lengthy. After the books, the kids started working on a paper chain to put on the Christmas tree that was going to be put up in the library. When it was time to go back to class, I walked them down and waited for Mrs. Catoe to begin. She told the kids to get settled to go over Morning Meeting. Before they were done it was time for me to leave. Well, not really. It was only 9’oclock but some people think that is where we are supposed to leave when really its 9:15am.

  5. Today when I arrived at Mt. Pisgah I was still half asleep but went straight to Mrs. Joyner's classroom. The kids were not in there yet, it was just me, Mrs. Joyner, and Mrs. Stephens. I walked in and Mrs. Joyner handed me papers to hand out to the students, so when the students arrived they would already have their sheets. The sheet was the warm up sheet and it had three addition problems and two word problems. It also had a sentence that you must rewrite and correct and another sentence that you had to put the words in order. When the kids completed this sheet I walked around and checked it. Once all were checked Mrs. Joyner divided the students into three groups. One with me, one with her, and one with Mrs. Stephens. I read with the first group and they were very talkative and did not really want to listen so Mrs. Joyner and I switched groups. The second group I had was not as bad just one kid was really pushing my nerves today. Riley kept saying how he was suppose to read first and when it was his turn to read he would complain. He also would read really low. After we finished reading I gave out ram bucks and he said, " I guess I'm always the jerk since you want give me one." After finished reading it was time to go and overall the students were not behaving the best today. I guess because of the long break that they all had but hopefully tomorrow is better.

  6. Today, I asked Mr. Leininger about my placement for when I started to teach. I asked him what lessons he would be starting and when I could teach them. He told me that starting tomorrow I would be doing the warm-up everyday from now on. He told me that I would have to thoroughly discuss the facts the way he does them in the morning. He told me to just look up information to talk about with it to let them get a better understanding of them. I told him I would share my information with him in the morning about the facts. He started teaching the class soon afterwards and told them that they were going to review. They took a memory quiz in the blue practice books for about ten minutes. Once they finished, Mr. Leininger began to talk finish up the notes for this section. He talked about the war of 1812 and the era of good feelings that eventually led to the Panic of 1819. They laughed at his comparisons during his teaching because of how fast he talked about the economy and how it is seen through foreign eyes. I cant wait to actually participate in my class and helping to educate my students!

  7. Today was day ten in my placement. It just so happens to be the Monday after Thanksgiving Break, so everyone was slow today. When I got to my placement signed in with Mrs. McCaskill and there were books on the cart so too help Mrs. McCaskill out I put most of them away right before the second grade came in at 8:00 AM. When the second grade came in they went to the rug like normal. After they all sat down Mrs. McCaskill read them the book called An Amish Christmas, which was about a little girl that is Amish and she wrote about what her family did on Christmas, which was very interesting, considering they do Christmas way different than we do. They do not decorate their houses or anything. Then after Mrs. McCaskill read that book she read the book How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which is a very typical Christmas story. After she read books the kids were given a table to go too and then they were given directions to the craft. They were to make a chain of pieces of red and green paper for the Christmas tree. They made as much as they could before it was time to go. When the kids left it was time for kindergarten to come and it was also time for me to leave. I had a blast today and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store for me!

  8. Today I signed in as I would normally would. Since the majority of the students didn’t make a good score on their Bench Mark writing test Mrs. Sowell is making them do a worksheet every morning correcting sentence errors, whether its capitalization, punctuation or sentence errors. While they were working on their morning work, Mrs. Sowell gave me some worksheets and ideas for my lessons. I looked over everything and the book that she gave me on The Best Christmas Pageant Ever had everything laid out. Each lesson had different worksheets to go along with them so that you won’t move to fast with the lesson. The book also gave some good hands on activities for the students to work on after reading the chapter and taking a short quiz afterwards. By this time it was time for some of the students to go read to their reading buddy. A reading buddy is someone who is in a higher grade level that picks books to go read to children that are in a lower grade level than them, possibly second graders. While the reading buddies were gone Mrs. Sowell and the rest of the class went over the incorrect sentences on the morning work. The majority of the class either missed one or didn’t miss any at all, there were a few who missed two and then two or three who only missed around three questions. After going over the worksheet and everyone knew what they got wrong and the reason for it being wrong, Mrs. Sowell brought up the Bench Mark writing test. She went over why they got scored off topic and again how to stay on topic. After she went over the whole thing to the class she called them up individually to tell each student what they did right and what they did wrong and how to fix what they messed up on. Each student got the opportunity to go back and make changes to their writing after she went over it with them individually. While they were having their student to teacher conferences and working on meeting their AR goal for the week I started to work on my lesson plans again. Today class went by quickly I guess because I was actually working on work for myself instead of just helping the students and assisting Mrs. Sowell.

  9. Everyone was in a good mood today from the rest and time away from school. Today things moved kind of slow though, I pretty sure it was because it was the first day back after Thanksgiving Break and everyone had to get use to being at school again. They definitely weren't ready to come back though because they were super quite this morning at first. They wrote in their journals first and I walked around talking to them about what they did while they were on break. I found out that two of my kids had lost teeth over break so they got a tooth necklace and got to add stickers to the chart of who had lost teeth when. I didn't ask the kids to do popcorn words with me this morning because I figured they hadn't looked over them during break but I was surprised when a few had and knew a good bit of them. After journal time to get things started Mrs. Farnum went over this week's helper assignments and then had some of the students like morning helper take down the lunch count and attendance. It was then time for timed addition problem tests then accelerated math time which I had stapled together during the timed test. I went around helping during accelerated math and helped when a child came up to me or called me. After getting done with and scoring their math they read silently until time for music class.

  10. Day Ten
Today in my placement it was after Thanksgiving break, so we all needed a little refreshing on what we were doing before we left. We picked back up on what all kind of ways that they could write a story about an eye. The students came up with some great ideas. I was shocked to hear them. They said they were going to do a new report, some said a police report, and some even came up with a doctor’s report. It amazed me with the ideas they came up with. That day they really just had a little time to discuss everything because with it being Monday they had a lot of papers that were graded from the week before to get back so there wasn’t much time to do a lot, but it was exciting coming up with all of those ideas to write about the eyeball. They also did show don’t tell and examples of that. Mrs. Kahler spent a lot of time doing that. It really helped the students with writing. It showed them how to be very descriptive. Mrs. Kahler gave them a story with lots of detail and one without lots of detail to show them the difference. It was cool to see.
