Today when I entered the classroom I noticed that Mrs. Sowell wasn’t at the table that we normally would sit at. Mrs. Borough’s was sitting there. She told me that Mrs. Sowell’s husband had car trouble so she had to go pick him up and take him to work. When the students got to class I called them up one by one to take up their projects for history class. I didn’t allow them to take their AR Test because I didn’t want to be the blame if something would have happened to the computer. I explained the work that Mrs. Sowell had left on their desk, some of them had already knew how to do the activity it was something that their third grade teacher taught them how to do. The students were up and out of their desks, asking to go places, and talking loudly. They knew that they weren’t supposed to be doing none of these things and they are not even allowed to whisper when Mrs. Sowell is here. Being here for a few weeks now I had to step in and take control and remind the students of their classroom rules, they got quiet for about ten minutes until someone the question, “What is an oral report?” The students had just completed a project and didn’t know that they would have to present it to their classmates which really threw the students out of whack most of them go real nervous. The students soon began to get back on task with what they were doing. While the students were working on solving their hidden picture I began looking for an activity for my students for the lesson that I will be teaching on “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” After completing their morning assignment they were told to read. Time flew by quickly and the next thing that I knew it was time for me to head to North Central.
Today is my eighth day at Midway Elementary School. I got to the school about 7:05 this morning. When I got to Mrs. Hayes’s class she sent Madison and I to the library. We went to the library to get the computer cart. Once we got back with the cart Mrs. Hayes sent us back to the library to get two more carts for Mrs. Garbade, and Mrs. Davis. After the carts were delivered we went back to Mrs. Hayes’s classroom. I walked into the classroom and Meagan walked up to me and asked if they could get breakfast. I told her yes and I began to check their names off the list. After they ate their breakfast they watched the morning news show and did their morning exercises. After they were settled in they began to write a story in their journals. While they were writing groups of two went to the library to check out new AR books. While they were working I graded a set of papers and continued to work on the Christmas tree hands. I called two students back to where I sit and let them cut out their hands. Mrs. Hayes told me that on December 14th the students are going on a field trip; too bad I don’t think it is possible for me to go with them. Overall today was really good. It seems like every time I get into the flow of things it’s already time to go. I finished up the hands and I signed out and headed to North Central.
Today was an easy day in room 607. At eight o clock my students left to go to the hoops for hearts event that the middle school was having. It was a good event for the students because the students get to play basketball for a good cause. They pay money to go play and watch and that money goes to a good cause. I had the option to either go to the event or stay and help Mrs. Lesher set up activies for her first block class when they got back. I was kind of sad when i found out i wasnt going to be there for the activies because i really wanted to be there for my kids so i could help them out and experience what they did. They activies that were set up were some really fun things. They had the air bazookas which shot things out powered by air. Dominos were also set up and a catipult section was also laid out for them. This i thought was the funnist. After all that was complete me and Mrs. Lesher sat down and had a good talk on a lot of things. We talked on beliefs and certain insights on what the economy is doing. We talked a good bit about politics and morals. In the end i feel that i walked away wiser than i was before.
Today was an overall productive day in Mr. Leininger's first block class. They did their usual OTT in the morning on Friday. Today they kept the eighth grade longer to discuss the Spirit ring situation today. They were given their eighth grade class rings today in the morning during first block so my class started about fifteen minutes late. They also had a Hoops for Heart game going on so the schedule changed a great bit. The students had an extra fifteen minutes in each class and also had every block back to back until lunch and the eighth grade time to play. When everyone walked into class Mr. Leininger told them to study the pre-amble for about five minutes. He gave everyone a sheet and told them whenever they were ready to get up and hand him the sheet and say it in the front of the class. The first person was Chase and he almost nailed it. He missed three words and made a 94. For a while it was the lowest grade because classmate after classmate and classmate made 100's and 96's. The class did really well on this assignment and the lowest grade was only an 82. Once they completed this they got ready to do a test on their facts but the class was called to get their rings. The rest of class they watched The Patriot and I left to come to the high school.
Day eight Today the eighth graders were getting their spirit rings, so the schedule was different. We didn’t really have much to do and the students got back in the classroom and told us that they had to come baack to class and they didn’t receive their rings because the people weren’t there yet with them. So Mrs. Kahler told them to just get in their groups from Friday and finish working on their “Black Cat” charts. It was a laid back day in Mrs. Kahler’s room and each group got a lot of work done. Today I got to know the students a lot better and I’m starting to remember all of their names. Today I went around and helped each group. We pretty much did the same thing as Friday. It was also really cool to see all of their scary eyes they finished drawing. Each student also kept studying the preamble any free moment they got, so I guess they have to stand in front of the class and say it like I did in eighth grade. I wish them the best of luck I can’t wait to see each of them tomorrow.
It’s Monday, the greatest day of the week. I had a rough weekend (family problems) so it was hard for me to get up this morning. I was actually on time for my placement so I was very happy with my self. I knew that my day would get better as soon as I saw my kids. I walked in to my class room and my kids were not in there yet so I talked to Mrs. Catoe about the BOGGLE board. When my kids started coming in, they were told to unpack and then get on the carpet to start Morning Meeting. I sat in my usual spot next to the carpet and my two girls sat right next to me. They did their Meeting and then they were allowed to sign up to read with me. One little girl signed up and we went to the corner. When she handed me her book, I knew exactly what the book, “Good Night Moon”, was about because I remember reading it when I was in elementary school. I read it one time and she read it back to me. When she got done with her book, Mrs. Catoe said it was time to go to the library and the kids had to line up, so I went with them. In the library, they were read a book and then they had to do a work sheet. After they were done, we had to go back to class and finish going over the Morning Meeting stuff. Our longest BOGGLE word was four letters and our number today was 38. By the time the Morning Meeting was over, it was time for me to go. I grabbed my things, and had to tell my kids bye once again. I reassured them that I would be back tomorrow.
Today is the eighth day of my placement and I was in Mrs. McCaskill’s class today considering it was Monday. When I got in there me and Mrs. McCaskill talked about our weekends and things that were going on. Then it hit 8 o’clock the second graders piled in and class began. Mrs. McCaskill read them “Twas the Night before thanksgiving.” They loved it and it was a book about kids visiting a farm and so the farmer wouldn’t kill the 8 little turkeys they sneaked them to their houses and had a happy thanksgiving. After that they kids were giving a worksheet. It was to help them learn how to properly put books away on the shelves. They had to but the books in alphabetical order and then cut them out and glue them on the paper in order. After they finished with that they had a choice of doing a crossword and maze, read a book or color their worksheet. The kids were very good today. I was very surprised but I had a blast helping the kids with their worksheets. I can’t to see what tomorrow has in store!
Mrs. Joyner told me today that she was very glad I came because she really needed help today. Today in class I was there before all the students and I was looking over their everyday warm up sheet. This morning's sheet just like all the others had two sentences on it. The students had to write one but had to change a word or two and the other they had to rearrange the words to make a sentence. Mrs. Joyner allowed me to teach the students what had to be changed and after we went over the sheet I walked around and checked everyone's paper. After finishing the worksheet i helped the students finish their Indian headbands for lunch. They were all allowed to dress as Indians for lunch. Once I finished helping with the headbands, I made sure all the students' vests fit right. Mrs. Joyner had a meeting at nine so once I finished that it was time to go.
Today class moved pretty slow. I guess it's because of the short week we have because of Thanksgiving Break coming up on Wednesday. The class started with journal writing, except we were missing one student today during that time because she got chosen to do the pledge on the morning show for that morning. I didn't work on popcorn words with students this morning though because they don't take their "Bee Folders" home on Fridays. After everyone was back in class they did they daily times addition fact practice, but no one finished today although some came really close. Then it was accelerated math time, which for the majority of the time I was helping a student who was sick Friday and missed her reading test. Once I was done with that I got to help a few students a little with problems and helped a few score theirs by calling out their answers. That was my day today, not too much excitement, we'll see what happens tomorrow.
Today when I arrived at the school the children were on their way to class. As the children got into the class they unpacked there book bags and then got out their AR books. The students were reading quietly and a few students read books to me. Emily, Branson, and Tristan read their books to me and then took AR test. There was no empty computer in the class room so I took a few students to the computer lab so they can take their test. After they got done reading Mrs. Mason and me showed an example of a multiply game. The game was there was an odd and even side and you have two dice to roll. As you rolled the dice if the product of the two numbers were even the child would move the marker on the even side and if you got an odd move the marker on the odd side. After they got done playing the game they put the things back and then I had to leave.
Today at the middle school things they were operating on a different schedule because during their related arts periods they were having Hoops for Heart. During each grade levels related arts period, they would be going to the gym and every student had to pay to either play in the game or to watch. A lot of the kids were dressed up for the event and very excited. Due to problems with the internet the class couldn’t watch their daily CNN news so Mrs. Ingram told them to begin studying for their upcoming quiz. Then I handed out all their materials for their quiz and if anyone had questions during the quiz I answered them. As they finished their quiz I collected them and then told them to get out their maps and practice for their geography quiz.
