  1. Today I went to Mrs. Sowell’s class as I normally would and signed in. while the students were working on their morning work I began to work on my lesson plans. Mrs. Sowell being herself interrupted me and asked me to go to the teachers’ lounge to run off copies for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I didn’t know that Mrs. Sowell was going to go ahead and start the book so I have to start all over with my lesson plans because I thought she was going to get me to introduce the book to them then go from there. So now I have to change all of my activities that I had to go along with the lesson. When I got back to the classroom the kids were still working on their morning work so I began to add the names to my seating chart. A while later Mrs. Sowell had me get on her computer and make a new attendance sheet for our students for this week. While I was completing her teaching duties she continued to go over their Bench Mark writing scores like she did yesterday. After she finished she had a substitute come in to watch over her class because her daughter was sick. Before I left I made sure that the sub knew what the class was supposed to be doing and that she had all the necessary worksheets. I politely asked the class to be on their best behavior for Mrs. Stover (the sub).

  2. Today was my 11th day at Midway Elementary. It was my second day back from Thanksgiving break. When I got to Midway this morning I signed in at the front office like normal and went to Mrs. Hayes’s classroom. When I got to the classroom there were only three kids sitting in the hallway. Mrs. Hayes sent me to the library to take back the computer cart because they forgot to take it back yesterday. Leanna accompanied me to the library. Once I got back to the classroom I took the breakfast and lunch count. After the morning routine the kids watched the morning news show and got ready for the day. They got out their journals and had to write another story. While they were writing I printed out papers for their new writing journals. Once they finished with their journals Mrs. Hayes asked them to get out their books they were going to do another lesson. They were discussing the meaning behind real and fake things. While they read I gathered there writing and filed them in their folders. After a few minutes we got our things and went to the cafeteria to practice for the play. Before they even got started it was time for me to leave. So I gathered my things including Mrs. Hayes’s social studies teacher book that she lent to me to use for my lesson plan. I went to the front office and signed out and headed to North Central.

  3. As soon as I arrived to my placement my students were unpacking and getting ready for AR time. I took the roll and put it in on the computer and then I called for breakfast which they put down what they want for each of the following days. Emily and Branson read me a book again today and they took a test and both made a 100%. After they got done with AR time it was reading time and I was looking over my lesson that I am going to teach. I found a game and two worksheets to teach. After I got done and found my papers I marked them and wrote how many copies I need to make. Then I went to the copy room and got all the papers for Mrs. Mason and organized them and stapled them together. I sit the papers on her desk and then I got on a few children because they was lying down and not seating on their bottoms. Then after I left I went to first grade to talk and see all the children in the class and I read a book to this little child that was by himself.

  4. Today in class I had a lot to do. When I got to class some of the students were already there from breakfast and were working in their journals. While they were doing that I talked to Mrs. Farnum about my lesson and some possibilities of what I could do for that. When they finished their journal they got to color the cover for their December journals which had a gingerbread man on it. As more students started coming in I looked over popcorn words with the ones that had studied them the night before which was only two today and then we made note cards for five they didn't know. When everyone was in class and the morning show had gone off Mrs. Farnum handed out the accelerated math work sheets for everyone and then asked me to go get red construction paper which by that time I had figured was for the covers of their new journals. I went to go make copies of the sheets to go in the journals then put them together while they finished their math and pictures. After they finished their pictures for the front they brought them to me to glue on, but I didn't get a chance to finish them all before I left.

  5. Today was a day that I could not complain about. I was so nervous to be able to teach for the first time since I was given the job to do the warm ups. I found all my information last night and wrote a script this morning. Mr. Leininger asked me if I needed to ask him any questions and I told him no. He announced to the class that from now on I would be doing the warm ups and put the facts on the board. As I got up to start talking everyone turned around to watch me so I walked to the front of the classroom. I talked for about seven minutes and asked if their are any questions. They all said no and I walked away. Mr. Leininger told me good job and the class applauded me. It was kind of funny and kind of them. Mr. Leininger asked the class why they don't clap for him when he teaches and they said because that is his job and he doesn't speak like them. The class did a worksheet on the up and low country of South Carolina. They had to match the terms with either the low country or the up country. They did little pictures with each term as they matched them. Once they finished this, they started doing notes. They got through a good bit of notes until class ended and it was time for me to sign out and head for the high school. I can't wait to do my warm up tomorrow!

  6. Today was a fun day in the life of class 607, we started out with our normal day routine by coming in and setting up the chairs with the warm up which all in all took about ten minutes total and then we got on the work for the day. Today was kind of a reviews review for the test on Friday. We went over the homework from last night and then we got to work. I had the biggest job yet, I had to do basically the whole review with these kids but Mrs. Lesher helped me out on occasion so I didn’t totally mess up that bad. I started out by doing my normal routine when I go over something and read the title and the starting paragraph so the kids knew a little of what we were talking about so they could remember what the review was about. After I finished reading I asked who would like to do number one for me and instantly hands went in the air. It’s a sweet and sour feeling when I have to call on students to do a task for me. I want everyone who is willing to volunteer to get a chance to do something and I don’t want to pick favorites but sometimes there just isn’t enough parts to go around for everyone which saddens me because me being a student I know the importance of participation, I am after all a teacher cadet. Anyways I started calling the students hand who came up first and we got through the exercise smoothly and finished class strong. Afterward me and the teacher were talking while the classes were changing and she told me she wasn’t going to be here Monday so I asked her If I could teach then. She approved so now I am patiently waiting Monday.

  7. Today was day eleven at my placement and it was a Tuesday, which means I was in Mrs. River’s classroom. I started the day off normal, when I got to my school I started off towards my second classroom. When I got there I stood in the hallway with Amanda until our kids made it too class. When we got in the class I got my folder out and signed in with Mrs. Rivers. After that I walked around after the kids got there warm-up binders out and started working on them. I helped some kids if they needed some help on the math, they didn’t do sentence warm-ups today. After they worked on the warm-ups for about fifteen minutes Mrs. River’s checked to see if they had their homework from the previous night. After that Mrs. River’s went over the warm-up and then she went over the homework, which was a division problem. After that we started a new game. It was kind of complicated at first but then it got easier after we played it with the whole class. Then Mrs. River’s put a group of four people with me to work just in case they needed some help. I loved working with the group, it made me feel like a real teacher because I had to show them and give them directions to the game. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the week has in store!

  8. This morning started out terrible. I recently bought a new pair of wedges and when I was walking to my classroom they broke. I had no choice but to keep them on while I was at my placement, even though it was very hard to walk. I knew that if I could wait till I got in my truck to leave, I could change into my Nikes, even though they didn’t match my outfit. Anyways, back to the kids. The class started off like normal with morning meeting, except Mrs. Catoe decided to give the kids a “hard number” which was 125. Since I’m going to lead morning meeting for my observation day, I have to remember what I’m supposed to do with that number. I have to do the day, and then add a stick for the number of days that we have been in school. Then I change the green index card to the right number of day, write it in cents, and expanded form. Then we go over the rules. It starts off like, “Today I will...“ then we read each rule. After the rules, we do spelling and BOGGLE. Then it is time for todays’ number, which is something totally different than the other number we write in different ways. After we go over all of that, they kids line up to get Ram Bucks for doing their work. Once the kids got settled back in their seat, we started with the Math Quickie and Daily Language. After that the kids started working on spelling practice. Todays’ activity was called Rainbow Writing. The rule is each number in a die represented color. Whatever number the kids rolled, they had to match the color up and them rewrite the spelling word in that color. An example is, one is green, and I roll a one for the spelling word, so I have to rewrite the word in green since I rolled the number that represents green. While they were working on that, I noticed that my time had run out and it was time for me to leave, and as soon as I got to my tuck, I out on my Nikes’ even though they are ugly.

  10. Today in Mrs. Joyner's class we did our normal warm up. I walked around and made sure everyone was on task and answered all the questions the students had. I try my best to bond with all the students and talk to each one of them at least once. After the checking the morning worksheet the students had to do their Tuesday math sheet. Most of the students know how to do the math sheet so I walked around and checked all of those. After checking those we read the reading story of the week as a class. The students behaved really well during this activity. Most of the students enjoy reading. Before we started reading Veta came in and read with us as well. She also read with a kid alone. The kids seem to really enjoy when Veta comes in, especially Landon. After we finished the story is was time for us to leave. So like everyday the students said there good byes to us.

  11. Mrs. Ingram began selling tickets for the dance today so she was late coming in the classroom. Until she got back I watched the class and made sure they didn’t get out of hand. Once Mrs. Ingram got the dance tickets squared away we started class with our usual viewing of CNN Student News. Mrs. Ingram was pretty excited that she figured out how to enlarge the video using the projector today and most of the kids commented that they already knew how to do that and they could have showed her; I laughed at this. While the kids were watching the news I ran down the hall to make Mrs. Ingram some coffee. When I came back I followed along with the notes Mrs. Ingram was going over so when I start teaching I have a good understanding of the events leading up to my lesson. On my way out of the school today I took the money Mrs. Ingram collected for the dance to Mrs. Gaskins in the front office and then made my way back to the high school.

  12. Day Eleven
Today I didn’t feel good at all. Even though I didn’t feel well I still tried my best to be interactive with the students. They got a hand out from Mrs. Kahler and it explained to them how to start their stories off. Each student got to choose what they wanted to do. It took them a while to choose which one they would want to do. Some students chose and then after working on it decided they didn’t like the route they were taking and changed their minds and chose something else. I thought that was really cool that Mrs. Kahler gave them a choice. Tuesday I walked around and gave them ideas and helped them get started. They all needed some sort of “grabber” which is something that will get the reader’s attention and make them want to keep reading. It was the student’s job to find gruesome words to go along with what they have read from Edgar Allan Poe. It was really fun watching all of them come up with their own ideas. These stories are going to be amazing.
