Today was Tuesday and it was just like any other day at my placement. I arrived at Mount Pisgah and went straight to my second classroom. Since today was Tuesday I was in Mrs. River’s classroom. When I got there the kids were just getting in the classroom and they were getting their binders and starting on their warm ups. They did the Math and sentence warm ups just like they normally do. When they got done with that Mrs. River’s went over their division homework and then she went over the Math and sentence warm ups. When they got done with that we started on the five stations that we were doing on Friday. But this time we didn’t spend as much time at each station like we did on Friday. I was doing the division game like I was doing on Friday with the kids. This time I worked with group of five instead of four. It was a little different. I had to help more kids and it took a little bit longer to play the game than it did with the group of four. But I had a blast with the group of five kids. After I worked with the five kids I worked with another group of four kids. They were a blast too. It was a little bit easier working with them. Today was a blast and I can’t wait what the next day has to hold.
Today I went to class and signed in as I normally would. The students had a worksheet on their desks for them to get started on until class officially started. The first worksheet that they had to work on is one where they had to complete the story by inputting verbs, adjectives, or nouns. This worksheet was for a grade and it had to make sense it seem like they had the most trouble with this one. After they finished their worksheet they turned it in and came to me so that I could give them their other worksheet. The next worksheet that they would be working on was a Mad Lib they could make it as silly as they wanted too. After finishing the Mad Lib they had one more worksheet to do and that was a crossword puzzle about the pilgrims and Thanksgiving. Some of the students remembered most of the information about the pilgrims and where they landed when they came. Who helped them, things like that. Once they got finished with all three worksheets Mrs. Sowell allowed them to read and work on AR Test. She had informed the students that their scores from the Bench Mark test were back and that she wasn’t very pleased with them. Over half of the class got OT which is off topic, Mrs. Sowell and I both reminded the students that in order to get a good score they were supposed to put their answer back into the question so that they’ll stay on topic. It was only one person in the class who got a perfect score of 15 and that is the highest score that you could get and that was Reagan. I’m so proud of Reagan because she took the Bench Mark test seriously and did well on the practice tests.
At the last minute Monday night my grandpa surprised us by showing up for Thanksgiving break a little early so my family and I started our vacation to the beach earlier than planned. I spoke with Mrs. Ingram Monday night to let her know that I would not be with her and the kids the next day, but she told me not to worry because they would probably only watch a movie. I was upset I wouldn’t see my students today, but I also wanted to spend time with my grandpa who I don’t see very often.
It was my 9th day at Midway Elementary School. Today was the last day of school because of Thanksgiving break. Today when I got to the school I signed in at the front office like I normally do. I went to the classroom and like normal I was sent to the library. Madison had not gotten to school yet so Collin walked with me. We got to the Library and the librarian said there were no more carts. After we left the library we went back to the class and I began taking the breakfast count. Today was changed up different because for lunch they would have their lunch delivered to the class. After the count they watched the morning news show and did their morning exercises. After they settled down I took some pictures for my portfolio. They began working on their reading assignment. After a few minutes Mrs. Hayes said for the students to line up that they were going to the gym. We went to the gym with Mrs. Davis’s and Mrs. Garbade’s class. They were working on their Christmas play that will be at six on November 29th. Today was a good day I always hate having to leave, but I signed out and headed to North Central.
As I arrived to my placement the students were on the way to class. I walked in the classroom and everybody was coming to hug me and about to knock me down. The class got unpacked and seated and as usually a few people wanted to read their books to me so I let them. Tristan and Branson read a book to me today and after that they took a test. The both of them made a 100%. After that got done reading they can to the floor and everybody got a turn to show their turkey that they were supposed to decorate the night before. There were all kinds of different turkeys and there was even a model turkey. Then I went outside the classroom into the hallway to hang everybody’s turkey up for display. When I got back into the classroom Mrs. Mason and I demonstrated how to play another multiplication game to the students. The game was called Turkey and you had two dice to roll and if you got a one in either dice your turn was over. As I was going around and looking at the groups playing the game I called on a few groups because they were doing a good job and they got to move there magnets up. Each student has magnets and they can move them up or down and if you move up its good and down is bad. After I looked at the groups then it was time to go all ready.
Day Nine Today was Tuesday and it’s the last day for the week, because of Thanksgiving break. The students are so excited for their break. They have been working so hard. They had their phobia quiz and then after that they all started talking about their next assignment, which is writing about an eye, because that ties in with Tell Tale Heart and The Black Cat. They all had to think of a spooky way to tie in there story with an eye. Mrs. Kahler looked up scary eyes on Google to give the students words that describe a spooky eye. It was really interesting to see what they all came up with just by looking at a picture. I can’t wait to read their stories. They’re going to be great. That’s pretty much all we did on Tuesday, because of the break. It was a great day.
Today was day nine and the day before Thanksgiving. Yesterday I was missing six kids and today I was missing seven kids. As usual I sharpened all the pencils that needed to be sharpened and I asked the students if they were ready for Thanksgiving. We also did our morning worksheet. Like every morning I go around and look to make sure all of the students did their work. The students were behaving very well today and were working hard. As I was getting ready to go I told all of the students to have a great Thanksgiving.
Today everyone was super excited (including me) about Thanksgiving Break and it being the last day of school for the week. They all talked about their plans and a few wrote about what they'd be doing in their journals. They had to go along with their regular day as normal though even though it was so close. I didn't do popcorn words today, as a break for them and will start again when we come back from break. I didn't have much to do today after sharpening pencils and journals they started accelerated math for the day. I helped them with that and then it was library time. It was a kind of slow day because of all the excitement.
Instead of morning meeting the kids were given blocks and they got to play with them for the first 10 or 15 minutes. During that time, the kids were allowed to sign up to read with me and they were so excited to ready, like always. The first person to read with me was Cheyenne, then Makenna, David, Clara Grace and Emma. When the timer went off Mrs. Catoe said they were going to do morning meeting but without their journals. Two kids, Carter and Daisy, didn’t get to come to the carpet because their works from yesterday wasn’t done and they had to finish it. I think my kids knew that it was the last day of school before Thanksgiving Break because they were being extremely noisy today. One kid, Jermaine, was even sent out and then when he came back in, his desk was separated from the rest of his former group. After morning meeting, the kids got to do another form of BOGGLE, but with the letters that make Thanksgiving. Right away they started talking about what words they had and how many they had. They were so proud to tell me how many words all together they had when the timer went off. Clara Grace had the most, 30 something. Cameron had 20 something and the rest of the kids averaged between 12 and 15. I hated to leave right after that because I know it would be five days until I see them again.
Today was an overall pretty great day. Everyone was looking forward to Thanksgiving Break including the teachers. They had to take a test on the facts from yesterday as they were called to get their rings. They finished in no time and we soon began notes. I made some copies for Mr. Leininger and as I came back they were working in their PASS notebooks. They had ten minutes to finish the work in the book. Once they finished they played a game on the smart board for candy. They played a basketball game and a hangman type game with instead of an actual hangman they used a guy getting hit with tomatoes. If you get a letter right the tomatoe missed, if you get one wrong the tomatoe hit him right in the face. The trick to the game was they were timed and if they didnt finish the game in time they had homework for the break. All the kids were going too fast and they overlooked letters they had already selected. It was down to the last person, Chris Simms. He had to spell slavery and messed up with thirty seconds left. Mr. Leininger told them to not worry about homework as he was just playing around. He sooon dismissed class and I made my way to the high school.
