Today when I arrived to my placement the students were happy to see me and they asked me where was I yesterday. I told them why I was not there yesterday and I checked everybody’s agenda book. Everybody brought some treats and stuff for each of their stocking that they are making today. After I checked agenda’s it was time for AR time and a couple of people read to me. After they read to me then they went an took an AR test and then they went to the floor for Mrs. Mason to read them a Christmas book. Mrs. Mason read the book about How did Santa get his Job. After she got done reading to the class they went back to their seat and then got there library books. The students lined up to go to the library and then we walked down the hall way quietly. When they arrived in the library we gave them about 20 minutes to pick out a book. While I was waiting I was looking in an I Spy book and a student name Stacy happened me find things after she checked out a book. Then it was time to go back to the classroom and when we got back it was time for me to go. When I told the students that I will see them tomorrow everybody gave me a hug at the same time trying to knock me down. Then I left and told Mrs. Mason that I will see her tomorrow.
Today was the last full day of school before Christmas Break and you could definitely tell today. The kids were having a Christmas Party some time today and everyone was bringing in food for it. Today also started off with some of the teachers coming around to bring a Christmas present around for the teachers. It was a sled made out of candy, and they even made one for the teacher cadets. It was really nice. We didn't do popcorn words today to have a break, so after the morning show we jumped right into accelerated math. Once the majority of them had gotten their math done they came to the SmartBoard to do a lesson with me on number rules. When they were done with that we did a review sheet on what we'd just gone over. The lesson we went through would be a part of their math test later on today.
Today I arrived at the middle school early again and helped Mrs. Ingram get things prepared for class. When the students came in we watched the CNN Student News and then I passed out their maps from yesterday for them to finish today. Most of the class time was spent finishing their maps. When the students finished early some of them made sympathy cards to send to Newtown, Connecticut and then they worked on a vocabulary crossword puzzle. Tomorrow the students will have a Christmas concert in the morning and if we have time afterwards I bought Christmas ornaments to make with them as my gift to them. The best part of my day today was when students from my first two classes brought me cupcakes.
Today was the twenty six day at my placement. What I thought was going to be a normal day was by far normal. When I got to Mount Pisgah, I headed straight for the fifth grade class. When I got there Mrs. River’s was not there. I asked the kids where she was and they said she wasn’t there. Then Mr. Bosko came in and saved the day. He helped me watch the kids and keep them under control. They seem to listen to him. We colored until we found a couple of DVD’s to watch. We watched the movie how the Grinch Stole Christmas. By the time we got that over with it was time for me to go.
When I arrived to Mrs. Joyner's class today the students had to do their warm-up sheet and I sharpened pencils like I do everyday. After about 15 minutes in class Mrs. Joyner said we as the first grade have a gift for you. Mrs. Joyner said I deserved something for helping her with the kids. So I opened it and read the card and once I opened the card, there was a ten dollar ITunes gift card inside. So I explained to the first grade what the card did and showed them my gift. After going over and checking all of their warm-up sheets Mrs. Joyner called all of them to the rug and opened the presents that some of them brought her. She opened each one slowly and thanked the kids who brought her something individually, she also showed the class the gifts. After that it was time for me to go. When I got out of school at 1:35 I came straight home and rode up to the elementary school to pick up my sister. So while we was waiting, I walked into my class and they were playing musical chairs and all of them said hey Brandon!! So I stayed only for a couple of minutes and I had one walk up to me and say, "I got you a present Mr. Brandon," so I held out my hand and he gave me a really small chocolate ball and so did another girl. I told them bye and that I would see them tomorrow.
Today was a pretty good day. Mr. Leininger was out again so there was a substitute. I introduced myself to her and she introduced herself back. I asked her if she had any work for them and she said no. I went to Dr. Richardson to ask if he did and he said that he had to print them off and bring them to us. Once class started he came and dropped the work off. It wasn't anything big. It was just a simple review worksheet that had a unscramble words thing on the back. A girl in my class offered me some caramel that she made at home and I gladly accepted. The class frequently talked to me today which felt great. They asked if they could work in groups and I said it would be fine until it got a little out of control. They finished the worksheets in no time. I asked the substitute whether or not she wanted me to take them up and she said let them keep it. By that time it was about time to go as for some reason the students were let out early today. This week has been great so far and I am definantly excited for tommmorrow.
Polar Express Party Day!! When I walked in this morning the kids were telling me that they made me a surprise but I had to wait to get it. I thought right away that it was the cutest thing for them to be saying. Mrs. Catoe had moved the desk around to make a horseshoe shape so the kids could sit in the middle and watch the movie later. Before the morning really got started, the kids were working on Cole’s booklet. Once they finished their page they could work on the activity pad that Mrs. Catoe gave them. When all the pages were finished, the kids were sent to the rug so we could do Morning Meeting, without journals, so we wouldn’t get behind. After Morning Meeting, Mrs. Catoe told me that I could pass out the presents that I got for them, so I did. The kids started saying that they wanted me to open my surprise. The kids had made me a picture of their thumb prints in paint, which looked like lights on a Christmas tree, with their name around the tree. I honestly had a tear in my eye. The love I have for them kids is amazing. They are not mine, but I think of them as the children I don’t have. Mrs. Catoe gave me a personal present also, a very cute tumbler with my initial on it. When all the presents were opened, we started AR time, which was moved up so the party could be later. I read with about six kids before I had to leave.
Day 26 Today they had their vocabulary test, so they took that. While they were taking it I assigned each student to a laptop. When they got done with the test they got their laptop and then started their rough draft. Most of the class got finished today, but some didn’t. I walked around and answered any questions that they had and helped them get started. After students said they were done I read their story and told them what I thought. I told them if they needed to change something or add something. We had a really good day. I was really proud of the kiddos today. They worked really hard and accomplished a lot. I can’t wait until tomorrow to finish reading their papers and see what they all came up with. They really worked so hard today.
Today when I arrived to my placement I signed in, in the office and then in the classroom. The kids didn’t have any morning work on their desk but instead gifts from Mrs. Sowell. When I signed in and sat down at our table there was a bag sitting there. On the bag was written to Courtney from Mrs. Sowell’s 4th graders. When Mrs. Sowell came in the room she gave me the gift and told me that they were thankful for me. In the gift bag were lots of goodies. Mrs. Sowell had to run to the office to get the things for the teachers so that her and Mrs. Simon could pass them out. She told me that I would have the class to watch until the morning show went off. Today on the chorus was on the morning show the kids enjoyed watching them sing. After the morning show was over with I took lunch count and by that time Mrs. Sowell was back in the classroom. She pulled their AR scores up online and called the students names who has not met their reading goals. Those that has not met their reading goal would be sitting at the no talking table at lunch and would not have any recess. After she went over with the students who met their reading goals it was time for me to go, I signed out and headed to North Central.
