  1. Today is Monday December 3, 2012 and my fifteenth day at Midway Elementary School. Today when I got to the school I went to the front office and signed in like I normally do. After I signed in I walked through the teacher’s lounge and went to Mrs. Hayes’s class. Once I got to the classroom Mrs. Hayes sent me to go get the lesson plans out of the printer. Once I got the papers I took them to Mrs. Hayes and she sent me back to the Teacher’s lounge with a dollar. She asked me to get her a drink, and for me to get myself a drink too. Once I got our drinks I went back to the class and the kids started getting breakfast. While they were getting breakfast I marked their names off on the breakfast count and then we did the lunch count. After the breakfast the kids did their morning exercise and then got their writing journals out. They could do whatever topic they wanted to do today. While they were writing I graded three sets of papers, and then got a group to come sit on the rug with me. When the students joined me I taught them how to do the wrap up game. Once I showed them the first time they took off and did all ten by themselves. Overall it was a very productive day I signed out and headed to North Central.

  2. Today was a great day. I signed in the office as I normally would and then I went to Mrs. Sowell’s classroom and signed in there. When I got to the classroom the students were working on their morning work. Mrs. Sowell allowed them to read and take AR test as they completed their morning work. Mrs. Sowell was busy on her computer making cards for literature, she sent me to the office to ask the secretary for laminated sleeves so that when she laminate it, it’ll make the cards hard when they are done. After Mrs. Sowell got finished with that she went over the morning work, to make sure that they had to correct answers. Once she got finished with that she went on a scavenger hunt for something else she needed. While she was out of the classroom I continued to have the students read and take AR Test. Mrs. Sowell had mentioned to them before that they would be MAP testing with Mrs. Simon at nine o’clock, so I allowed them to go row by row to the restroom so when they get in there they won’t say that they have to go to the restroom. Mrs. Sowell and I briefly went over my lesson more time before Wednesday comes to make sure that my lesson was on the correct chapter. All I have to do tomorrow is print out their worksheets and possibly make groups. After going over stuff for Wednesday it was time for me to sign out and head back to North Central High. 

  3. Today in my placement we stared the day off by making the kids draw pictures of what they did over the weekend. The kids came to circle time with there pictures and we sat in the circle and they told what they did. The kids then got up and we tried to do our moring work but the smart board was not working. We told the kids about the lessons they will do. Then we played a song so they would not get tired before they went to library.

  4. Since today is Monday, the whole school started with OTT in the Gym. Once that ended Mrs. Ingram and I ran to the copy room to grab all the papers we would need for today’s class and I got started with that. When we got back to her room she explained to me what I would be doing today and gave me some guidelines on how to do it. Once the news was over, Mrs. Ingram allowed me to run the class all on my own.. Once the news was over I had all of the students put their books and binders away and explained to them what quiz they would be taking. I also explained to them the work individual work they would be completing once they finished their quiz. After that I handed out all of the materials they needed and then explained how to correctly write the answers once they had a quiz of their own to follow along with. During their quiz I walked around and handed out lollipops because that is something Mrs. Ingram always does during their quiz. As they finished I handed out their next assignment and answered a few questions about that. Soon everyone was finished and Mrs. Ingram took over while I graded the quizzes. Overall, the quizzes were great and only one student failed. During the second class Mrs. Ingram administered the quiz and I watched to see things that I could have done better. As the kids finished their quizzes I picked them up and handed out their next assignment just as I did in first block, and handed out candy. At 9:15 I had to leave and head back to the high school.

  5. Day 15
Today I was so happy to return to Mrs. Kahler’s class, because I haven’t been there in three days because I was sick. When I got there me and Mrs. Kahler discussed what had been happening and what lesson I could start teaching for my observation. Mrs. Kahler gave me a lot of ideas that I’m excited about. Today we didn’t work on the stories anymore which I was kind of sad about, because I love seeing what they write. We started reading “Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe. Before we started reading that we talked about what irony meant. While reading the students had to go through and find where they saw irony and we would stop and discuss everything. I love when we have discussions about what we are reading. That really helps you understand what you are reading. It also helps the students out a lot. We didn’t get finished with the story but hopefully we will finish it tomorrow. I can’t wait to see them again tomorrow.

  6. Today was Monday and it was the first day of school that we went to in December. Today was just like every other day in the ole’ library, I started off by going over what we were going to do when class started at 8 o’clock with Mrs. McCaskill. After that we the second grade piled in and the class began. Mrs. McCaskill read the kids a book called If You Take a Mouse to the Movies. After she read the kids the book she taught them what a cause and effect book was, and what a circle book is. The book she read was both of those things and she went over with the kids a couple of examples of both of those kinds of books. After that the kids were sent to the tables for the craft. Today the kids did a word search about Christmas. Today was a very good day at MTP. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the week has to offer.

  7. Today was unusual because of technical difficulties with the printers in the school. We started off the day normally with journals and work with popcorn words with the students that are still working on them. Today MAP testing also started so the kids had to be quiet in the hallways. Since the printer was having issues we did writer's workshop today instead of accelerated math. They are really good at writing stories. They're writing about why they like Christmas and then got to paint and decorate little trees to go on their stories. While they did that I put together their thanksgiving stories and hung them in the hall. I liked getting to see them do a different subject today that I don't usually get to see.

  8. Mr. Leininger was finally off of gym duty so as I walked into the classroom he was here. We had a small conversation and then he talked to me about the lesson plans for this week. He told me he wasn't going to be here Wednesday and that I could easily take over the class. He told me to make some copies of the SC Facts Quiz and a worksheet for him. Once I finished, OTT was over and the students were making their way down the hall. Once class officially started, Mr. Leininger passed out the quizzes. They finished in no time and literally took about eight minutes to finish it. I was happy because I was in charge of all the facts they took the test on. They soon began the notes on the Antebellum Period. Right now they are talking about Manifest Destiny, in which we wanted to expand our country in the early 1800's. While they took notes I was given the best task of them all, grading tests by hand! It took a lot longer than I expected because there were about twenty five tests and each tests were four pages. Class ended but I stayed a little extra to get the all the tests graded and finished. It took about ten extra minutes and Mr. Leininger told me I could leave, but I told him that this was no problem. I hate doing something and not being able to finish it because it bothers me to death. Once I finished, Mr. Leininger showed me the lesson plans and told me to pick two events I was very familiar with. I chose bleeding Kansas and the election of Abraham Lincoln. He told me to be ready by Friday and I can't wait!

  9. Today in Mrs. Joyner's class we started off with our language sheet instead of the normal warm up since the students had to go to the library at 10:00. The sheet asked the students to rewrite a sentence and to make to words that included the ending -ed. The students did a really good job on this sheet. Once we finished the sheet and went over it with the students, Mrs. Joyner split them up into two groups. My group read a story to me and the funny thing was the book that I got was actually the book I had in first grade and Parker. The book we read combined songs and an actual story. I had Mekhi, Carl, Alyssa, and Landon M. in my group. Mekhi and Carl would not pay attention so I kept warning them and finally I wrote their name on the board and made them spend recess on the hill. We did not get to finish the whole story because they had to go back to their seats and it was time for me to go.

  10. Today at my placement was the day i got observed. The bad part of the whole thing was that i was sick and was dying on the inside. I felt so bad walking into that middle school. I just knew that i needed to count my steps carefully because to much walking and i wouldn't be standing for much longer. I got to the class early because my teacher wasn't there and i needed to get some things ready for my students when they come in. I needed to make sure the worksheets where ready and that i could find a PowerPoint to go with the lesson and that the books. I made sure that everything was okay for my kids but it turns out Mrs. Lesher was already on top of the game and she had everything laid out for me so that was a good thing. The lesson i thought i taught was really boring because it was nothing but book work. And i was right, it was extremely quiet, good thing was that my kids were good. I went over the worksheets with them and class was pretty much over so i let them talk for the final mins of class.

  11. Happy Monday! I’m in a great mood today because I know that we are starting to get ready for Christmas. I’ve been out on “Pencil Duty” every morning and that means that I stand next to the wall and sharpen pencils. Only a few kids get their pencils sharpened so I have an easy job. Instead of Morning Meeting, the kids worked on “Santa Dot-to-Dot” and if they weren’t doing that, they had work from last week that they didn’t finish or start on. Again today we had three kids out. Since today is Monday, we have library time. The librarian read them a book called “If You Take a Mouse to the Movies.” The book taught them about cause and effect. She also taught them how to find a book on the shelf by their call numbers. Instead of a craft they worked on a word search that was orientated with Christmas. When we got back to the class room, we went back to the carpet for Morning Meeting without journals. We didn’t do today’s number or BOGGLE. Jermaine’s birthday is today so we sang him “Happy Birthday” when we got back to our seats. After they were settled, I passed out our Math Quickie/Daily Language sheets and they started right away. I didn’t get to do much after that because it was time to leave.
