  1. Today is my 21st day at Midway Elementary. Today when I got to Midway I signed in as usual and headed to Mrs. Hayes’s classroom. When I got in the classroom I helped a lady set up the stuff for the Santa shop and then headed back to the classroom. Once I got back to the class I let the kids get breakfast and took the lunch count. After they ate they got to watch the morning news show and do their exercises. After they exercised they got out their journals and wrote for about ten minutes. After they wrote I got up in front of the class and taught the students about 3-dimensional shapes. I was so nervous but once I began to teach my nervousness disappeared. The students were so involved and eager to answer the questions. Once I went over the lesson they completed a worksheet and turned it in to me. The ones that needed help on the worksheet I walked around and helped them. After a little while of helping the kids it was time to leave so I collected my papers and my things and signed out.

  2. Today when I got in my classroom I told Mrs. Mason that I would go ahead and start the breakfast count and lunch count. After I did that I let Branson read to me before I started the lesson. Mrs. Sutusky came to observe me today and I was pretty nervous. I got my sheets out and first Mrs. Mason and I showed the students how to play the game that goes with the lesson. After I taught them how to play the game then they got with their math partners and played the game. I told them that they can’t use there cheat sheet this time. I was going around asking students did they need help and made sure they knew how to play the game. I let them play the game for about 20 minutes and after that I called them up by groups to put there materials away and go to their seats. Then everybody was seated I called all the good groups up that was working really good together to get a piece of gum. I handed every student a worksheet that is front and back and told them one side is classwork and the other is homework that I will collect it tomorrow. After that all the students went to the gym to rehearse for their Christmas play that is tonight.

  3. Today was the twenty first day in my placement. It was just like every other Tuesday at Mount Pisgah. I had Mrs. River’s class today and it was just like normal. I got in there and they were doing a division worksheet instead of the wise binders because they were going to practice the play this morning. They worked on the worksheet until 8:30. Then we lined up in the hallway and headed for the gym. It took about 15 minutes for them to set up and get quite enough so they could start practicing. Mrs. River’s said she would give everyone three ram bucks if she didn’t have to call them out on being bad. I had a blast today. I can’t wait for tomorrow!

  4. Oh wow today was extremely boring in my placement except for something one of the students said that i over heard that shocked me. I dont know if its appropriate for a blog but i might come back to it later. My dad was pretty much taking pictures of my kids while they worked so i had so material for my project. I didnt teach or anything today so i just walked around and made sure everyone knew what they were doing and didnt have any questions and things of that sort until class was over. However the thing i over heard startled me in such a drastic way that i could believe that it was just said. It was a bad thing so to speak but it wasnt health for a Sixth Grader to be speaking like this. I was just doing my rounds and i walked past a group of girls whose conversation i over heard. They were talking about lossing their virginity. No its none of my business either way but i was just dissapointed that students in my class would be worried about such things. Kids that age are far to young to worry about all that. Now i may be taking this out of context or maybe it was a joke that they had going on but just what i heard dissapointed me so i thought id share that.

  5. Today started off pretty rough. Mr. Leininger forgot to send me the facts and I couldn't do the warm-up again for the second straight tuesday. As soon as they finished the warm-up, Mr. Leininger asked me to pass out worksheets for them. It was a story on a slave with questions at the end. He told them to get a highlighter and highlight key things that relate to the questions. I read the paper as he told the students to imagine themselves as a slave doing the work as rice field slave had to. It was horrible to even imagine. Some students tried to give similar things to the work and conditions but none came even close to the fate of the slaves. Once they finished the worksheet, they watched a Discovery Channel movie about field and house slaves during the Antebellum Period. Once the movie ended I told Mr. Leininger what I was going to do and he told me that everything was ok with what I had. He gave me a few tips that I plan on using. I can't wait for tomorrow to teach my students!

  6. Today when I arrived to my placement I signed in, in the office and then in the classroom. When I got to the classroom the kids were reading, Mrs. Sowell hadn’t gave them their morning work. I went to the teachers’ lounge and made copies of the morning work for the fourth and fifth grade. Mrs. Sowell was busy working on things for the secret Santa activity that she started with the teachers. While Mrs. Sowell was catching up on her work I went over the morning work with the students after they got done. Before I allowed them to go back to reading and take AR test I took lunch count. Taking lunch count is the worst part ever some students put their hands half way up and when I recount them to make sure that I haven’t forgotten anyone its either more students raise their hands or less. Today is the first day that the Christmas store in the library will open. The students were anxious to go in there and buy gifts for their parents/ guardians, friends or whoever else. I allowed a few students to go to the library to see what they wanted to buy so that tomorrow they’ll have money to get what they want. The rest of the students who waited to go to the library waited at their desks reading until it was their turn to go. Now that Mrs. Sowell was back they were on their best behavior.

  7. Day 21
Today Mrs. Kahler returned to school and she had so many graded papers to give back. After going over who turned in what and who hasn’t, they went over the correct definitions for the words in the song that they used context clues to figure out. I was surprised to see the students did really good using context clues and they figured out the definitions just by reading the lyrics of the song. It was fun doing that with them. After that we played the song again and sang it a few times and it was so fun. The students love that song. It’s a really fun way to learn. After all that fun Mrs. Kahler pulled up this website and they had to use context clues to figure out what each word meant, and it was challenging, but they did a great job.

  8. Today started off as a normal day. The kids wrote in their journals, did popcorn words, and watched the morning show. After all the normal stuff was done I asked Mrs. Farnum if I could give them their Christmas present. I picked a good day because everybody was there. I bought the girls red tree ornaments and the boys blue ones then wrote their names on them with paint pens. They got that and candy canes. They loved them which made me happy. After that we did math as a class on the smartboard, then did a probability activity in the workbooks. After they got done with this it was time for related arts class.

  9. The students have already covered all of the lessons that they are going to cover before the Christmas break so today they were continuing some review work. There was not much to do today because all of the students were working quietly and Mrs. Ingram didn’t need any help from me. So throughout the class I walked around making sure the students were on task and answered a lot of questions for them. The assignment they were working on came out of their workbook and in order to receive full credit, they had to locate the answer in the book and highlight it to prove that they found the correct answer. This seems like a pain in the butt, but I think it is actually good for them. The students could have easily picked a random answer and turned the work in, but by making the students do this it almost guarantees they will do the work and do it right.

  10. Last night, somehow, a dog was locked inside the building. Like most dogs, this one wanted to destroy something, so he turned on the Christmas tree next to the gym. When I walked into class, the kids were working on something at their desk to pass time. Mrs. Catoe told me that today would be very different since the Christmas program was going to be tonight. She said that at 8:30am, we would go to the guy for them to practice. Until then they would work on their normal stuff. Cole is the “Student of the Week”, so he shared some stuff. Once he was done we did our Math Quickie/Daily Language so they could use them as a study sheet, just like any other week. When it was time to go the guy, the kids lined up and we walked down the hall. I found the other Cadets and stood with them until it was time to go.

  11. Today went a little different than any other day. We did our warm up and language sheet this morning but at 8:30 the children had to go to the gym to practice for their Christmas special tonight. Before we went to the gym I went over and counted all the kids ram bucks and announced how many each one had. The reason I volunteered to count the ram bucks was because the students were going to the store later this week and had to know how much they could spend. Each kid needed at least 45 to be able to go to the next party the class had. Some of the kids did not have quite enough so Mrs. Joyner promised to double ram bucks this week so they could go. She said if the students behaved at the practice than they would get ram bucks. Once we got down to the gym Josh and I had to help them get more desks and chairs for the event. It took a few minutes to get all the kids to be quiet so they could began. After standing around with the teachers and other cadets, it was time to leave. I was ready for tonight because, I was coming to watch my kids perform and when I came tonight some of them hugged me. Overall the kids behaved real well at the special.
