Happy Friday!

  1. Today was my 19th day at Midway Elementary. Today being a Friday made all the kids harder to handle. This morning when I got to the school I signed in as usual and went to Mrs. Hayes’s class. Before the day began I went to the teacher’s lounge and cut out the words “Santa Shop” for a banner. When I made it back to Mrs. Hayes’s classroom the lights were off and the kids were gone. I was not sure where they went until Mrs. Garbade told me that Mrs. Hayes would be on the morning news show. Beings she was going to be on the news show telling about the “Santa Shop” the kids were split up between Mrs. Davis’s room and Mrs. Garbade’s room. I took the breakfast count even though I had to go from room to room. After Mrs. Hayes got off the news show she came back and the kids did the exercise in Mrs. Hayes’s room. I glued down the letters on to the banner and then I called individuals to finish their counting and identifying money. Before too long it was already time for me to leave so I signed out and headed to North Central.

  2. Today, when I arrived at my placement I went to my classroom and talked to Mrs. Mason about the next lesson I am going to teach. The children started coming in the class and putting up there book bags and I went around and checked agenda books and gave them ram bucks. Then I was wondering why there were a lot of parents there today and I had forgotten they had another AR parade today. I let two students read to me before the morning show and then they took a test. The principle was going around to each classroom and getting the students who have reached their AR goals. Then Mrs. Mason turned on the television and we watched the show then went in the hall way and clapped for all the students. After that the students came back to the classroom and then it was time for their daily week test. I took Branson, Emily, and Tristan to another room to read there test to them because they are having trouble reading. I read each question and choice of answer to them and took them back to the classroom when they were done. Mrs. Mason asked me did I want to give the students their spelling test and I said I will. So I said the spelling word then read a sentence to go with the word and then said the word one last time. After I finished the spelling test it was already time for me to go and I told everybody bye. Everybody came and gave me a hug and I told them I would see them Monday.

  3. Today I was ready to get to my placement but once I walked in I saw they had a substitute and I was no longer excited. The last time they had a substitute, the kids were extremely bad but this substitute was very strict and knew how to get to the kids. The kids had the morning worksheet on their desk but most of my kids were involved in the A.R parade. We had parents in our room and we were waiting for the show to come on, the show never did come on our T.V so we had to go next door to Mrs. Catoe's class. Once the show was over we went back to class and it wasn't long until Mr. Boscoe came in there to get the kids for their Math portion of the MAP test. I went back to the classroom with the substitute and got to know her. She said that she used to teach special ed ages two through five. She said Matthew was one of her students and when he entered her class he could not talk or walk without a walker. By the time the kids finished the test it was time for me to leave.

  4. Today was Friday witch for my students that meant test day, i was especially nervous because i introduced this lesson to the kids. Somewhere in my mind i thought that maybe if i didn't do a good job teaching that it would reflect on these kids, like i failed them. That was my biggest fear the whole morning. Well everyone got sat down and settled in and Mrs. Lesher and I noticed how little that class was now. We were missing a good eight or nine students i cant really remember but somewhere in my mind i thought i made them students sick. Its a bad thing being sick because you miss all your work and you have to catch up on everything which im struggling with now so i know how stressful it can be for those kids so i want them to be in school. Anyways after the role was taken the test was passed out and they got started. The longest person to take it was Veronica i think, which even then wasn't that long. It took them maybe twenty minutes to complete the test and turn them in. I took the scan trons up and went to grade them and was pleasantly surprised at how many good grades we had, so over all i felt accomplished about teaching Monday. After i showed the grades to Mrs. Lesher she let the students pop popcorn for the good grades and then class was over and i went to school. Ready to teach next Monday

  5. Today was my nineteenth day in my placement and it was a Friday, therefore I was in Mrs. River’s classroom. It started off just like a normal day in my fifth grade class. When I got in there Mrs. River’s told them to do a page in their Math binders instead of doing it in their wise binders. They were working on the warm-up when the Friday news show came on. I had to run to the teacher room and get the copies of the division test the kids were taking later that morning. When the morning show was over with the kids went over the warm-up and then Mrs. Rivers and I handed out the test and they began. It took them a while to do the test but I walked around and observed them taking the test and it was time to go. I had a fun and can’t wait to see what money has in store for me!

  6. Today when I went to my placement I signed in the office as I usually would. As I was walking to my classroom Mrs. Sutusky stopped me in the hall to let me know she was coming to take pictures of my students and I. I went to the classroom and signed in there, the classroom was rearranged and one of my students wanted me to come sit beside him. Today they didn’t have any morning work to do this morning so the read and took AR Test until class started. Mrs. Sowell allowed them to go to the library to renew, or turn in books. After everyone returned to class they got back in their groups and continued to work on their puppet show. A lot of the students had good ideas and was excited about performing it for the class. On Wednesday some of my students were missing so I had to go around the room to make sure that they understood the directions and knew what chapter their group was doing. They still were anxious to perform their puppet skits for the class. It was time for time for them to come to a stopping point and move to the next activity. By this time it was time for me to go.

  8. Today was field trip day and they were all VERY excited about that. They were going to Columbia to see a ballet performance. Today was also the day of my observation so Mrs. Sutusky was also in the room which added to the excitement. First as usual I went over popcorn words with the ones that needed to and had their Bee Folders with them. Then we watched the morning show and again Mrs. Turner the principal gave Mrs. Sutusky a shoutout since she was at the school again. I read them the book The Mitten by Jane Brett. After I read the book to them we talked about what happened in the story, I asked questions like "What animals were in the story?", and "Who can tell me what happened in the story?". The next thing we did was a worksheet activity. The had to cut out slips of paper with objects from the story on them then glue them in the right place. Their two choices were either in the woods or in the cabin. After we discussed where they needed to glue things they got to color the picture and then I collected them to put some in my portfolio.

  9. Day 19
Today is Friday and the students started new vocabulary today. Mrs. Kahler has a song that incorporates each vocabulary word, and I thought the students wouldn’t really like it and they would be too shy to get into the song, but they really surprised me. They loved the song so much. They were all singing along and wanting it to play over and over. It really helped them remember the words and meaning too. The song gave clues on what each word means and they had to use context clues and try to figure out what each word meant. They got into groups and filled out a chart and then made a poster of all the words and what they thought the words meant. It was cool watching them try to use clues. I walked around and helped them break words down and figure out what they meant using the lyrics of the song.

  10. I felt worse today than I ever have; I can barely walk because I was so weak and in pain. I knew I could get though my placement at least and if I didn’t feel any better by lunch, then I would go home. When I walked in class, the kids had three choices, a word search, read or draw quietly. Most of them were working on the word search so I walked around and helped when I could. Since it is Friday, we have Live TV and parents were in there waiting for the AR Parade. Mrs. Joyner wasn’t here so she had a sub, and the sub nor Brandon could get the TV to work so they come over to our class. Tomorrow is Shelia’s birthday, so we sang “Happy Birthday” to her after Morning Meeting (without journals). Once everything was settled, the kids had to start on their Language and Math quizzes; and as usual, two or three kids didn’t want to do their work. We didn’t do much today, and I am somewhat glad but like usual, I was sad to leave. But the time I got back to North Central, I was feeling worse; I sat through the whole second block because I didn’t want to miss anything from Sutusky’s class.

  11. Today was a pretty laid back Friday in Mr. Leininger's classroom. We began class as usual, with me doing the warm-up with the students. During the warm-up Mr. Leininger added a little extra to my stuff about the Battle of Gettysburg and how it started which actually shocked me. The Confederates apparently were looking for shoes when they came across the Union army. I thought it was pretty funny. After that he told them that they had one more week of SC Facts for the year. He meant the calendar year but most students thought he meant the school year so he told them it was a joke. They got straight to notes after that. They are still working on the Antebellum Period and events that are key in it. They have three out of the six events done already. Once class ended I stayed a little longer to talk to Mr. Leininger about my placement. He gave me a PASS notebook and showed me what I really needed to showcase to the students. He told me as long as I can talk for twenty minutes and keep them entertained that everything would be ok. After that I packed up and headed to sign out at the office.
