Happy Thursday!

  1. Today was my 18th day at Midway Elementary. When I got to the school this morning I signed in at the front office like usual. Before I left the office I found out from the principal that Amanda and I would be watching two fourth grade classes beings they had a meeting. She told me that there will be snacks and activities for the kids to do while we are there. After I left the office I went to Mrs. Hayes’s classroom. Before getting in the door good I was sent to the library to get a laptop cart. Once I got the laptop cart I didn’t make it all the way back before I had to help Mrs. Garbade bring in the sacks of love bags from her car. There was so many bags we had to make two trips. Once we put all the bags in the conference room I headed back to Mrs. Hayes’s classroom. The students were all waiting on me to get there before they got breakfast. So I told them they could get their food and I took the breakfast and lunch count. After breakfast they watched the morning news show and did their exercise. I then got a set of money out and called students one by one to sort of quiz them. I asked them to identify a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar bill, five dollar bill, and a twenty dollar bill. Once they identified the money I asked them if they knew the value of each one. After working with several students It was almost time to leave. I walked over to Mrs. Hayes and asked her if she could give me the materials I would need for my lesson I’m going to teach for her. She gave me a set of blocks and her math book so I could create my lesson plan. Once I gathered my stuff I signed out and headed to North Central.

  2. Day 18
Yesterday Mrs. Kahler told all of her students that they should finish reading “The Cask of Amontillado.” Which was only one page, and she told them to go through and find ten things that were ironic in the story. I was surprised to see this morning that all of them did their homework. Mrs. Kahler told them to get out a piece of paper and write the differences between this story and all the other ones they read by Edgar Allan Poe. They all had excellent differences. It was neat to see that. Then after that they talked about the ending a lot. They made inferences on what they thought was happening even when Poe didn’t give them all the information they wanted. After a long class discussion about the story we had about twenty minutes left in class and the students broke up into little groups and they started going through and helping each other find irony throughout the story and they got to talk about it. while they were doing that Mrs. Kahler and myself walked around making sure they were getting it right and answering any questions they had. Tonight for homework they have to actually fill out a chart with irony they found and why they think it’s ironic. I’m excited to see what they put. “The Cask of Amontillado” is filled with irony.

  3. As I arrived at my placement today the students were already in the class putting up there book bags. The first thing I did was get some ram bucks and checked everybody’s agenda book to see if it is signed. Then the same usually students read their AR books to me and then they took AR test. Then Mrs. Mason said they are taking their reading test today so they want have that much to do tomorrow. She went over the vocabulary with them before the test and read another story that will help them with the test. Mrs. Mason asked me would I read the test to Branson again and I told her I would. I took him to the room besides Mrs. Mason and I started reading the test and it was a story at first. Then it was some questions about the story they have been working on all week. After that part it was some question about contractions and it was a review from the following week. Then I took Branson back to Mrs. Mason class and told everybody bye and that I will see them tomorrow.

  4. Today when I got to Baron DeKalb I signed in as I usually would in the office and then in the classroom. Class started off as it usually would with grammar correction for morning work then reading and AR Test right after. While the students were working on their morning work they watched the morning show. Today Mrs. Turner was on the morning show she announced that the Christmas workshop would be opening for the students to buy Christmas presents for their family members or friends. The students really looked forward to shopping at the Christmas workshop. After they finished their morning work I went over it with them while Mrs. Sowell was looking at their MAP results. Most of the students got their answers right. When they got done I got their Future Article folder and called their name so that they could work on their writing until it was time for makeup MAPs testing. Before I left they were starting to read chapter seven of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. A lot of the students kept asking me were they going to be able to work in their play today I sadly told them no. Mrs. Sowell told them that they would finish later.

We had the kids do there morining work and then when they were finished we went to our groups. I had my own group and we were painting our words that we have been praticing. There were kids in my group they wanted to paint crazy and through it everywhere. They all did there work great but they just got a little to excited when they were dipping there brushes in there paint. When we got done we had to wash up and put everything up, the kids were pushing and shovine and gettin shaving cream on me and other students. I had to go over and jus ttell to back up and do as i say or they were gonna be in trouble. They listend and then we went to circle time were we did our smart board activites. It was later so i had to go home before we could read our go to our groups. I had a great learning exprience with the kids and i cant wait for tomorrow.

  6. Today was my eighteenth day at my placement. It was just like every other Thursday. I got there and headed straight for Mrs. River’s class because it was Thursday. When I got there the kids were getting their wise binders out so they could start on their warm-ups. While they worked on their warm-ups Mrs. Rivers checked their homework. After that she talked to me about what we were doing today. She said we were going over the warm-ups then we were going to do a practice sheet on division because the big test is tomorrow. After that she went over the warm-up with them. Then we started on the packet, some kids got into groups to do it and others worked by their selves. It was very fun helping the kids do the packets. I liked it a lot and cant wait for tomorrow!

  7. Today the class was in a really good mood overall and really excited about candy cottage night today. One of the students who'd been sick the last few days was finally back. We worked on popcorn words again this morning and one of the students is on his last sheet of them so we're making progress. Another student got her 100% library button today which was very exciting for her. After all of that this morning and the morning show (there wasn't any morning movement today, which they were kind of upset about) we started on math. I had to multitask a little bit today because while helping them work on math I finished up the last bit of my lesson plans. There were kids who didn't have math today so they read and took AR tests instead. They were just finishing up math around the time when it was time for me to go but from what I heard scores were pretty good today.

  8. Mr. Leininger was here today and we talked a little bit about yesterday. I told him I did a good job yesterday and told him the little setback I had. He told me a few of the other classes did the same and to not worry about it. Once the class came in and settled down a bit, I began the SC Facts. I really enjoy doing these as they let me learn some new things also. Once I finished the warm-up, they began taking notes on the antebellum period. He gave them a worksheet that they needed to fill out as they took notes that had key notes for the test. There were six events on there, all of which I am very familiar with. Once they finished notes, I told Mr. Leininger that my placement was on the 12th and he decided to move my teaching to that day. He said he was going to carry the thing out until I teach the Kansas Nebraska Act. I am super excited and can't wait to teach next Wednesday.

  9. I arrived to my placement today and all the kids were already coloring the picture on their desk. They had a few minutes to color the picture but also had to complete their morning worksheet. I did the lunch count and sharpened pencils. We allowed the students time to complete their worksheet and then I walked around to check the sheets and surprisingly most of the students completed it. After checking the sheets, we divided into three groups once again. The ones that stayed at their seat worked on another assignment while Mrs. Joyner and I had groups to read with. Riley and Joshua were the only ones I had trouble with. They were constantly talking and Riley would keep calling Peyton names and also smarting off to me. Ones they went back to their seats after reading I gave all of them a Ram buck but these two. After finishing with the story it was time for me to go yet again.

  10. Today was my first day being back since i was sick. It was horrible. I thought that last night i felt better but when i got up this morning i felt so bad. i got to my class today and ill be honest, i don't even remember what went on in my class. I pretty sure i went over a study guide with them but i was concentrating on not falling so i don't remember a thing that went on. At one point i had to sit down because i felt it was inevitable that i was going to pass out or fall down or something, i don't know but i had to make my way to my seat and rest. i wish i could have been more coherent for my kids so i could have helped them better but i just wasn't there in my mind and i apologize for that.

  12. When I was on my way to placement this morning, my bother called me with bad news. Out lifelong friend and neighbor’s mom passed away in her sleep. I think of them as family so I took it pretty hard. On top of her passing, I am sick. No fever but I feel terrible; headache and my stomach feels like it is going to explode from pain. When I walked into class, the kids were working on their math practice from yesterday if they didn’t finish it. The kids that were finished was working on paper ornaments for out tree, which is starting to look beautiful. As usual, I took my spot next to the wall to assume my pencil sharpening duties. I can tell it is the sick time of the year because yet again two kids were out. Mrs. Catoe called the kids back for Morning Meeting without journals again this morning. It hurt to sit down because of my stomach so I stood next to my kids instead of sitting with them on the carpet. Once Morning Meeting was over the kids went back to their seat and waited on me to pass out Math Quickie/Daily Language sheets for them to start on. After that they started on their spelling practice, and since today is Thursday, they got to use playdough. Once they were done, they could play with it for free time which is about 20 minutes. After free time it was time to get ready for their pretest by throwing away things that were used in spelling practice. I had to leave before they started their pretest.
