  1. Today is Wednesday December 5, 2012 and my 17th day at Midway. When I got to the school this morning I went to the front office and signed in as normal. I went to Mrs. Hayes’s class and signed in there too. When I finished signing in Mrs. Hayes asked me to walk with her to the teacher’s lounge so she could show me how to use one of the machines. Once she showed me how to use the machine we headed back to the class. The students then came in quietly and got their breakfast. After breakfast the students watched the morning news show and did their morning exercise. After the exercise the students got out their journals and began to write. While they were writing I went to the teacher’s lounge and cut out 24 Christmas trees, 24 stars, and 24 snowmen. After I got them cut out I went back to the class and got another group together to do the wrap up game. After a while of working with the students it was time for me to leave so I went to the office and I signed out. Before I left I asked for the principal and beings she was not there I will have to wait till tomorrow to find out what Amanda and I will be doing for the child care thing at 5:30pm.

  2. Day 17
Today is Wednesday December 5, 2012 and when I got to the middle school I signed in like usual in the front office. Then I made my way to Mrs. Kahler’s room. Like usual everyone was at their lockers or either waiting on the news show to come on. Today we re-read the beginning of “The Cask of Amontillado.” We re-read it because when we read it the first time there were some students absent. Also students had a lot of questions about what was going on in the story. So we read that again to refresh their memory and stopped it so often to have long discussions about what was happening, so that the students were not confused on anything. Discussing what we are reading together is a great thing I think, because some students might be behind and the discussion really helps them. Reading and discussing took up the whole class period so after that I packed my stuff and headed to North Central High.

  3. Today class went back to normal. The kids came in and worked in their journals like normal while I worked on popcorn words with the few kids that are left. The morning show came on and because MAP testing is still going on they still have teachers running the show. When Mrs. Turner came on today she welcomed Mrs. Sutusky there who was observing Courtney today and talked about me and Courtney. It was kind of cool. Mrs. Sutusky came down to my class for a little while after she was done in Courtney's class. There are a few students who know her in there and they were excited to see her. We got to work on accelerated math today because the printers are finally working again. A good bit of them are starting to go up a level and are working on new things. After they were done with their math they got to make ornaments to go on the Christmas tree Mrs. Farnum had put up in the room, yesterday after I left they made gingerbread men ones our of real gingerbread dough and glue. Speaking of gingerbread Mrs. Farnum invited me to the first grader's annual candy cottage night tomorrow night, hopefully I'll get to go, I haven't done it since I was in 1st grade!

  4. Today I got to teach the class. It was a very fun experience and even started great. Coach Fry was the substitute but Mr. Leininger told him that I could handle the class. I started the class off like usual doing the warm up with the students. Once they finished I told them to get the blue PASS workbooks and work on Lessons 13 and 15 for about 15 minutes. Once it reached the ten minute mark I decided to walk around and realized that many of them did lesson 14 instead of 15. I told them that I would give them an extra ten minutes to complete it since they didnt understand what I told them. Once they finished I collected them and we started a movie until the end of class. The movie was about Westward expansion from the early years to the Antebellum period.

  5. When I arrived at my placement I talked to Mrs. Mason about the lesson I am going to teach. The students came in the classroom and were so happy that I was teaching them today. Then I took the breakfast count for the next morning. The students put their things up and got their AR books and some students read to me. Then they took test on their AR books. After AR time was finished I told them that I have a fun little math activity for them to do. I gave them all a sheet of the fun flap game. Then I turned on the board and showed them step by step and told them to follow along with me. I stopped in between each step and made sure everybody was doing it correctly. Then when we got done I let them play in their groups with the fun flap and then I told everybody to sit down and listen. After that I passed out another sheet which was front and back and told them that the front side was classwork and the back side was homework. After that I let them work on that for a little bit and then it was time for them to go to the library. I walked them to the library and told everybody by and that they better be good.

  6. Today when I got to Baron DeKalb I signed in as I usually would in the office and then in the classroom. When I got to the classroom Mrs. Sutusky was sitting in the classroom. Today is the day that I taught my lesson on The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. We started the class earlier than we normally would, they didn’t get to take AR Tests because Mrs. Sutusky needed to get back to the school. I started off asking them what they had read previously and only a few of them remembered what was going on in the book. I told them that they needed to be paying attention because they were going to be doing an activity after we listen to the tape. I started chapter six on the tape player, as we listened the students started to laugh at some of the things that they were listening to in the book, this showed me that they were paying attention. After they listened to the book I put them in groups to make sure that they would get their work done without being in the group with their friends. When I put them in groups and read the directions to them they were ready to get to work. After I went around making sure that they were on topic and that they were doing what they were supposed to be doing they told me that they were ready to perform it already and they weren’t even finished with the paper work. Mrs. Sowell asked me to wrap everything up so that we could go over the homework and let them take a bathroom break before they go to MAPs testing. The students wanted to know was I a teacher. I didn’t want to go to school today I wanted to stay there. Overall today was a good day I believe I did a good job with my lesson today and that the students enjoyed working together.

  8. Today was the seventeenth day I was in my placement. It was Wednesday so I was in Mrs. McCaskill’s classroom. When I got there I headed to the library and waited for Mrs. McCaskill to get off of morning duty. When she got to the library we talked and she asked me if I would please put together the library Christmas tree. Since I don’t get to put a Christmas tree up at home I was thrilled too. I got it out of the box piece by piece and put it together. After I put the whole tree together and made it look full I started putting decorations on it. Well Mrs. McCaskill had the kids make ornaments the other week so I put those up first. After I did that I had red beads to put on it. After that the tree was finished besides putting the candy canes on it. By the time I could do that it was time to leave.

  9. Today in my placement was back to normal since there was no MAP testing. I arrived to class when the students were unpacking. This morning, like all of others, I sharpened every students pencils before class began. Also, lately Mrs. Joyner has gave me the privileged to do the lunch count ever morning. This morning's worksheet was fun to do with the kids. I love being able to go around and helping the kids with the sheet. After finishing the worksheet, Mrs. Joyner went over the weather and some math with the students. This was something new to me, she has never did this while I was in there and it was interesting. After reviewing that, we broke off into groups and I went over the reading story with the kids. Most of my group behaved well and all of them read very well. Once reviewing the story and going over some vocabulary it was time for me to leave. Time seems to fly by faster and faster each day.

  10. Just like yesterday, we didn’t have morning meeting. When I walked in the kids were finishing up unpacking and starting on their wreath. They had specific colors that they could use. Green for the wreath part and red for the berries; they could color the bow anyway they wanted. When they were done coloring, they had to cut it out so I could tape them to their desk for decoration. Again, the kids were told to come back to the carpet for Morning Meeting without their journals. Instead of sitting with them, I had to cut out their spelling words out of cardstock to put on the board above be BOGGLE box. After Morning Meeting, they started Math Quickie/Daily Language. Today is kind of a bad day for me because I’m feeling sick on my stomach; I just hope that I’m not getting something from the kids. After the Math/Language paper, they started on spelling practice; today is choice between SCRABBLE and How Much Is It Worth? I’ve noticed that a couple of my kids have to be asked several times to do their work. While they were doing their spelling practice, I looked through the “Bucket Books”, which are books that they read as a class. After spelling practice, they started reading Officer Buckle again so I followed along with one of my kids. After they read, Mrs. Catoe had to make copies and she asked me if I would watch the class while she was gone. I noticed that Mrs. Catoe had wrote several names on the board, which I know means recess time. Three of my kids didn’t finish their spelling practice so they will have to finish it at recess when they go.
